Please Say Yes--Obama and Ron Paul as Running Mates!

Wouldn't this just be awesome? Wouldn't this just be the best thing ever?

Here is what we would get:

1) Real Change

2) And End To The Iraq War

3) An End To The War On Drugs

4) Less Government and More Freedom

Honesly, this would just be the most incredible duo ever. It would immediately answer all that nonsensical criticism that Obama is not a candidate of substance. Ron Paul's political theories on smaller government, sound money, no foreign wars, etc. would match perfectly with Obama's candidacy of hope and change.

I, for one, think this would be awesome.

Not bloody likely.

And I doubt we'll be getting less government under Obama.

Ideologically total opposites:

Obama--> Government can fix nearly everything, and should be involved in most things.

Paul--> Government has messed up nearly everything, and should stay out of most things.

Strangely that would make them almost perfect for each other in the more traditional senses.

It would be interesting and I'd vote for it, but I seriously doubt obama would push for that.

It'll never happen... Obama's too much of a tool and full of empty rhetoric.

I doubt this would ever happen. Ron Paul is pro-life. Barack Obama is pro-choice. Paul wants to lower taxes, Obama wants to raise them. Obama wants affirmative action, Paul doesn't. Obama hates corporations, Paul doesn't. Obama's an environmentalist, Paul isn't. Obama wants to amend NAFTA, Paul wants to scrap it. Obama wants to increase the government size, Paul wants to cut it down. Obama wants to ban guns, Paul wants to make sure everyone can have one. Obama wants universal health care, Paul doesn't think there should be government health care. Obama wants amnesty, Paul wants to kick em out. Obama wants to stop privatization of Social Security, Paul wants to privatize it. Obama wants the rich to pay for the poor, Paul doesn't. Obama wants to make welfare bigger, Paul wants to get rid of it.

It would sure balance the ticket though :-)

    Real Change

Ron Paul is so far right, he'd make the liberals veto anything he suggests. Obama is so far left, he'd make the conservatives veto anything he suggests. Besides, they'd never agree, so they'd never pass anything.

    Less Government and More Freedom

Doubt it if Obama's on the ticket. He's pretty big government.

it would be pretty dramatic, for sure....remember what Dukakis said--if 2 people agree on everything, it just means 1 person is not thinking

To be blunt, that ticket would guarantee McCain is the next president. They have pretty significant differences and a lot of combined weaknesses that would be easily targeted. For one, for Obama to pick a running mate who does not support his policy stances on abortion rights, business regulation, and education policy would give a lot of weight to those who want to claim that Obama is full of empty rhetoric.

what's sad about this whole about Obama being for change is he is really just for more of the same: more government; more taxes...etc. all that really translates into is less freedom....

Not the smallest of chances of the Democrats would assign a Republican to a role that will be coveted by many who will bring much more, from a party perspective, to the table.

Obama won't choose someone significantly different from himself because he likely doesn't want to be assassinated. We would immediately go from a Democrat presidency to a Republican presidency if anything happened to him. There is no reason to add that much more motivation to the myriad of other reasons certain people would want to kill him... and quite a few of those people support Ron Paul (through no fault of Paul).

It's a nice dream, but will never happen in the real world. I would like to see him throw a Kucinich or Gravel behind him, but he will likely look for someone with experience to rival McCain's experience.

        I like Obama / Edwards.

Though think Paul could still play an interesting role in the government, as well as Rudy.

It will never happen. I have heard whispers that he is going to ask Governor Sebelius of Kansas to be his VP. That will be a mistake too. She is up to her neck in stupid suggestions as usual. Don't like her, she claims to do things for veterans when the State of Kansas gives a free license plate to 100% total permanent vets. Worth a whole $33. That might pay for 1 tank of gas....lol!

I live near Kansas and work IN Kansas - I hope he doesn't choose Sebelius. She's full of empty promises, lack of accomplishment and scandal-baggage from her home state. I hope he does his homework - Gov. Richardson would be a much better choice.

If they could actually balance each other out and go half way on everything that would be a great idea. Together they could really accomplish a lot with their abilities. However, they disagree on almost everything, so they would most likely end up just fighting about everything and causing huge mess. Even if it actually happened, which is never will, it would cause more harm than good.

I'd vote for it just for the amusement factor! Plus they won't get anything done...which is likely a good thing at this point. Seriously though it won't happen. The two would be at each other's throats for 4 years. Paul didn't even want to consider Kucinich as a running mate...let alone Obama..? No way.

Kucinich is farther to the left than Obama, in terms of economic policies.
